Recent issues & concerns

October 23, 2017 --  A few issues have come up within the past few weeks regarding the White Pines windfarm that we thought we should provide clarity on.  While many of them relate to people’s opinions of, and feelings towards, the project, some relate to facts, many of which are not completely accurate.

White Pines - recent issues & concerns - 2017Oct23

Most recent site activity

October 23, 2017 -- Activity continues at the project site.  Our plan is to construct the turbine bases between now and next spring, with turbine erection sometime after that.  We're aiming to be fully operational by fall 2018.  The turbine towers and blades will be built in Ontario, as well as the padmount transformers (used to increase the voltage in order to reduce line loss, and sits inside the turbine tower).  In addition, virtually 100% of the development and construction labour will be from Ontario residents.

Community Liaison Committee

October 5, 2017 -- wpd Canada is resuming the process to establish a Community Liaison Committee (CLC) for the White Pines Wind Project in Prince Edward County. Local residents interested in acting as a liaison are invited to submit an application.

The purpose of the CLC is to:

(1) act as a liaison facilitating two way communications between the Company and members of the public with respect to issues relating to the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the Facility;

(2) provide a forum for the Company to provide regular updates on, and to discuss issues or concerns relating to, the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the Facility with members of the public; and

(3) ensure that any issues or concerns resulting from the construction, installation, use, operation, maintenance and retirement of the Facility are discussed and communicated to the Company.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the CLC for the project, please submit an application form. Copies can be downloaded from the project website (http://tinyurl.com/WhitePinesWindCLC), or by contacting wpd directly. We will then provide additional information on the next steps in the process.
